The Spring 2013 TFLEx workshop will be hosted by the Regional Transportation Authority(RTA) in Chicago, IL from April 21-23.
The regular business meeting will be at 4:00 pm on Sunday April 21, with the regular workshop on Monday-Tuesday April 22-23.

Sessions will center around Federal issues (post election) including State of Good Repair and asset management, fare collection and we will be spending one of the days in joint sessions with the CIO consortium discussing issues such as business intelligence and the nexus between finance, IT and operations.

The host hotel is the Hampton Inn Majestic Chicago Theatre District, with room rates of $171 per night.

Program Content/Learning Objectives
As the Federal government continues to deal with funding issues, transit agencies will need to plan for what may be a grim future. How will they be deal with possible funding and program issues? This workshop will have sessions geared to: 1) addressing the FTA’s role in the funding and grant areas; and, 2) working with the FTA on the future reauthorization of MAP-21. Additionally, the workshop will have joint sessions with the CIO consortium regarding issues common to both com munities and updates on fare collection projects at member agencies. After attending this conference, participants will be able to:

  • Identify Federal issues the transit industry is dealing with such as: streamlining the New Starts process, MAP-21 and reauthorization, what’s happening with federal funding, transit projects under the TIFIA program, and Title 6 (particularly as it relates to fares and service equity).
  • Discuss issues related to Business Intelligence with Chief Information Officers, including the nexus between finance, IT and operations.
  • Identify business efficiencies and discuss where and how to find those efficiencies in transit.
  • Receive updated information on new fare collection practices being contemplated throughout the transit industry, specifically Chicago, Dallas and Washington D.C.
  • Identify and share best practices through "Needs & Leads"
